We are proud to follow on the tradition of “Donkeys on Weymouth Beach” and we dedicate this page to those who had the care of the donkeys before me. Melanie
We have been asking for pictures and Peter Barron kindly supplied us the first five here, to which we are very grateful – Peter actually can be seen in the first picture.
The following 2 pictures & comments were supplied by Len Collins:
“The first picture is of me Len Collins, on the left, and Carol Dench in the centre. It was taken in 1947. Note the Ritz theatre on the far left. My dad may well have been on the crane in the background as was working there at the time.”
“The one below is a photo of my wife Rosemary (Andrews) with her mother. This one was taken in the early 1950′s, they lived in Barrington at the time. “
The next 2 are from Marilyn, taken by her father c1954 sadly he has not got the donkeys heads in the shot – something Melanie would shoot me for when taking pictures today!
Next batch: Photos sent by Gillian Watch from from the collection of her father -in law Thomas Watch age 90, who worked with the donkeys and goats in the early 1940s. The last 2 photos show his own son Robert (who also later worked with the donkeys) and daughter Janet in approx. 1960/61.
Next picture is of Chris Semple taken around 1954
If you have any suitable pictures we can include then please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org or if you can date the pictures that we have no dates showing or other interesting information please e-mail and be sure to come and see this years team on the beach
